Samsung's hotly-anticipated Galaxy S7 smartphone has finally been unveiled...

Samsung’s latest is here and it’s bursting with some particularly tantalising bonus features. Here are five that are about to make your life a lot easier…

1. Apps Edge

The Galaxy S7 Edge features a bezelled screen that pleasingly spills over the side of your phone, with a handle that gives your thumb the perfect swiping target. You can tailor its position and transparency to suit your grip in the phone’s settings. The screen edge also frees up tons of space for more apps, including 9 panels and up to 10 app shortcuts and folders. That softly-angled screen edge makes way for some handy extras, transforming into a ruler for all of your spontaneous measuring needs.

2. Always-on Display

The Home button is about to be given a well-deserved rest thanks to the Galaxy S7’s always-on display that lets you check the time, notifications, and all sorts of handy information at a glance. No more jabbing at your phone to check you’ve got a message or see the time, and you don’t even have to unlock your phone anymore to visit widgets like your calendar or the weather. Better still, the screen is able to sense when it’s been tucked away in the dark depths of your pocket, and will automatically go to sleep to conserve precious battery life, then spring into action when it sees the light of day again. You can customise what information it displays in the Galaxy S7’s settings.

3. Wireless Charging

It doesn’t matter what anyone else says, wireless charging docks are to phone chargers what USB sticks are to floppy discs. The Galaxy S7 brings with it a line of optional accessories, and the wireless charging dock is a must. It’s a sleek black little stand with a wireless charging pad that beams up your phone with battery without you even needing to plug it in. You can still use your phone while it’s being re-fuelled, so it’s an ideal little perching spot for playing music and videos. Frankly, we’re just happy we won’t be getting our ankles snared in cables anymore…

4. A night-vision camera

Wave goodbye to grainy night shots with the Galaxy S7’s super-crisp nocturnal photography skills. Samsung says it’s the first ever phone to pack a professional-grade Dual Pixel Sensor, giving you the ability to snap perfectly clear, stunningly detailed photos of subjects in the dark, or when the light starts to fade. It’s basically because the Dual Pixel Sensor gives your images two photodiodes per pixel instead of one, which means the camera can focus as quickly and accurately as you can with your own eyes. The camera is also much better at capturing movement than its predecessors, letting you capture sweeping motion panoramas.

5. A snap-on keyboard

The Galaxy S7 may be wiping the floor with most modern smartphones, but it’s not afraid to embrace a bit of throwback convenience. One of the phone’s optional accessories is a snap-on keyboard that replaces your touchscreen affair with physical buttons. If you’ve always been a fan of the more tactile way of typing, this little add-on will be right up your street. The phone’s display will automatically resize itself when it detects the keyboard has been snapped on too, so you won’t miss out on any of your screen’s lovely new features.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are now up for pre-order, priced at £569 for the Galaxy S7, and £639 for the Edge. If you get in there quickly, you’ll get a free Samsung Gear VR headset thrown in for awesome sofa-based adventures.
