iCharming's smart Charm Ring puts steps, selfies, and safety at your fingertips.
A ZTE-owned smart jewellery company has been flaunting its connected bling range called iCharming at MWC 2016, and this eye-catching Charm Ring is first in the billing.
The silver ring is hiding a three-axis accelerometer and Bluetooth chip under its chunky multi-faceted gem, giving it fitness tracking powers that sync instantly with an app on your phone. Charm Ring can track stats like steps, calories burned, and distance while it’s perched on your finger, and there’s a goal-setting feature in the app to keep you on your toes, complete with a leaderboard and reminders to stay on track.
Like the Halo bracelet we met earlier this week, Charm Ring throws in SOS alerts in case you’re in trouble. You can set up an emergency contact in the app, and then decide on a gesture which will trigger an SOS message including your location to be sent to their phone.
Like a growing number of wearables, Charm Ring responds to gestures, which you can customise in the app depending on what’s easiest for you. Tap the gem twice to take a selfie, for instance, or shake your hand to answer an incoming call.
Charm Ring also has some tiny embedded LED light which blink when you get messages, calls, or just if you happen to stray out of range of your phone.
There’s no word yet when Charm Ring will be hitting the shops, but it’ll be compatible with iPhone and Android 4.3 and above, available in six lovely gemstone colours, and have a comfortable week’s worth of battery life in between charges.
