If the idea of relying on your smartphone to unlock your August smart door lock makes you nervous, try this cool key pad accessory.
August Smart Lock users now have another tool in their belt for key-free front door access. Thanks to the August Smart Keypad, anyone with the company’s connected door lock can breeze in coolly through the front door by quickly tapping in a short access code.
By speaking to the August Smart Lock via Bluetooth, the August Smart Keypad lets you create unique pin codes in the August app to access your home without needing to pull out a key or your smartphone every time you step over the threshold. You can change your door code any time you like, and even send guests entry codes so they can let themselves in when you’re not there – or you’re too lazy to get up off the sofa to greet them.
The keypad even lets you lock the door in a key-free fashion too – just tap the Keypad’s lock button once on your way out of the house. The app will keep an activity log of every time your was locked and unlocked, so it’s super-easy to keep track of all the comings and goings on your doorstep.
Of course, you’ll have to invest in the August Smart Lock if you’re hankering after the keypad, but it’s an investment well worth making. In the same way, the smart door lock lets you create virtual smartphone keys to unlock your front door just by standing on the doorstep with your phone in your pocket. You can give virtual keys to friends too, and take them away again when your guests are done with them.
The August Smart Keypad is $79 (£55) and the August Smart Door Lock is $199 (£139) – both are available to buy here. Currently, the duo is only available in Canada and the US, which is a massive shame, but we’ll be the first to let you know if August decides to extend its reach to the UK.
