Feel like you're really in Rio with the BBC's new virtual reality app.

If the Olympics are feeling too far away this time around, the BBC is going to bring them right on back to the UK. They’ve launched a new virtual reality app, BBC Sport 360 to bring the action as close as possible.

The app will bring you 360 degree coverage of the games, including immersive footage of the opening and closing ceremonies, and live footage of selected events – which will then be available on demand if you miss it.

Viewers will have the choice of four different camera angles, and by the end of the games there’ll be roughly 100 hours of Olympic action to view. In addition, there will be a daily highlights package available at the end of each day of the competition.

The app is available on iOS, Android, and Samsung Gear VR – the version for Samsung Gear was custom designed for the platform. You’ll need a headset that fits your phone, a comfortable place to sit, and you’re good to go. Viewers who don’t have a VR headset will be able to check out the immersive footage on the BBC’s Taster site.

This might just tide us over until the Games come back to the UK.
