LG has launched its new SmartThinQ Sensor this week which will turn your traditional “dumb” appliances into smart gadgets than will communicate with your smartphone.

By detecting vibrations and temperature, the Sensor communicates with the SmartThinQ app on your smartphone to tell you the status of your appliances.

Attach the Sensor to your fridge, washing machine or dishwasher, and it knows when the laundry is done, when the dishes are clean, and even if food in your fridge is about to expire. It can’t make your fridge make coffee though, unlike the Keurig K-Cup fridge.

However, it can keep track of how many times your fridge door has been opened, and when attached appliances like air conditioning, it transforms your smartphone into a remote control.

There’s still no word on when we’ll be able to get our hands on an LG SmartThinQ Sensor, but this smart home one-stop shop is definitely a the top of our wish list.

Keep an eye out for its launch at LG.com.
