Skylock is a smart bike lock that connects to your phone via Bluetooth so you can unlock it using an app on your iOS or Android smartphone.

Made from strong steel with a durable rubber cover, Skylock uses 256-bit elliptic curve cryptology to keep your bike safe without the need for a key. In normal people speak, that just means it’s going to be one hell of a tough cookie to break into.

It also has a theft detection system in the form of a built-in accelerometer that can sense when your bike is being shaken, in turn sending a notification to your phone to let you know about possible tampering.

Similarly, there’s a crash detection function which senses if you get into a crash and sends alerts to chosen friends and family about the incident. You can also share keys with friends and family if, for any reason, you need to give them access to Skylock.

Activating Skylock is even more simple that unlocking it. Like with any normal bike lock, simply snap the shackle into the lock bar, and Skylock will automatically lock.

In the event that your phone dies, Skylock has a capacitive touch interface with LEDs for visual feedback to enable you to unlock it.

In terms of Skylock’s battery life, there isn’t going to be much of a worry. It runs using a built-in solar panel that only needs 12 hours of sunlight to run for six months.

The best bit is that Skylock won’t cost you an arm and a leg. Pre-order one for $159 (around £95).
