Now there's no chance it can hide under the bed and shirk its duties.

Robot vacuum giant Neato is unleashing another wandering sucker into the world, and this time round it’s got a feature to make sure it never gets lost.

Announced at the IFA in Berlin last week, the Neato Botvac D5 connected comes with LaserSmart tech, helping it methodically navigate your rooms to make sure no fragment of dust is left un-sucked.

That means continuous room mapping and real-time object detection, to be precise, meaning no awkward collisions with your sleeping cat or accidental credit card guzzling mishaps. It also has side brushes to give every corner a good going over, and a brand new ultra performance filter that Neato says is easy to pop out.

The pièce de resistance, though, is the D5’s ‘Find Me’ feature which, in case you hadn’t already guessed, lets you find the vacuum in your house from the Neato app on your phone. This should be particularly handy for poor folk with 6 bedrooms and several sizeable reception rooms who are constantly losing track of their many robot helpers. Well, here’s one less to worry about.

Obviously, you might just have a smaller house that seems to be a black hole for robot vacuums. In which case, it’s handy for you too.

Other D5-exclusive updates include some extra cleaning statistics in the app, like the total area and time cleaned, along with the last date and time the D5 went on a guzzling spree. Improved alerts are coming your way too, including better filter changing alerts to make sure the D5 doesn’t get clogged.

Neato Botvac D5 Connected 2A stronger batter also means that the D5 can zip about your floors for two 120-minute cycles, recharging itself in between cycles.

The Neato Botvac D5 Connected is arriving in the US and Europe early October, and will be sit at a pretty £499.99. You can jump in line for yours now.

If that’s too pricey for you, you can always go for the Neato Botvac D3 Connected, which Neato announced at the same time. That ditches the ‘Find Me’ feature and doesn’t come with all the same app updates, but it’s £379.99. You can sign up for the D3 here.
