The latest security camera from Netgear claims to last 6 months on a single charge.
Netgear has unveiled a new smart home security camera that doesn’t need plugging in. The fully wireless Netgear Arlo Pro runs on a rechargeable battery that gives it a whopping 6 months of power before needing more juice. Anyone struggling to find a practical way to wire up their outdoor security should be pretty happy to hear about it.
Elsewhere, the Arlo Pro boasts a few superior features that out-do its predecessor, Arlo Q. Its HD camera can now achieve a resolution of 1280 x 720-pixels, and it manages a 130˚ field of view. It’s also IP65 certified to withstand rain, shine and snow.
As before, there’s a 2-way mic for remote chatting/shouting at guests/intruders, and there’s night vision to capture those mysterious nocturnal occurrences. Anything that triggers the Arlo Pro’s built-in motion sensors and microphone will trigger the device’s 100-decibel alarm, but you can also manually trigger it via the app.
Speaking of the app, other features include the ability to watch a live-stream of any video footage on demand, share footage with friends and family, and access a 7-day history of footage and activity. The camera has local storage to keep a week’s worth of front yard shenanigans, but you can connect a USB drive to increase its storage capacity.
The app also gives you scope to customise your surveillance, letting you set smart schedules to fit around your own, geo-fencing, custom modes, and even IFTTT compatibility to make even more smart stuff happen with triggers from your phone, apps and other smart gadgets.
And if you’re not ready to go completely wire-free just yet, you can always hook up the camera with an optional wire to guarantee the camera’s always flowing. The app is equipped to manage up to 5 cameras at once, so you could dabble in a combination of wired and wireless Arlo Pro units, if you like.
Arlo pro is available to buy from Amazon for $249.99 (around £200).
