It has mood swings, calls you names and surprises you with rewards. Erm... Thanks?

Need a kick up the bum when it comes to getting stuff done? CARROT To-Do won’t hold back. It’s an iPhone app that takes a rather novel approach to nudging you into action.

Just like regular task-managing apps, CARROT To-Do lets you organise your various activities and projects in a straight up list. Nothing new there. You can swipe down to add a new item, and swipe across when you’ve completed a task. The app will give you rewards for completing tasks.

So far, so normal.

But the thing that makes CARROT To-Do stand out from other task-tracking apps is her approach to feedback. Yes, it’s a she. She’s not afraid to guilt-trip you into action, warning you not to make her upset by failing to complete tasks. While you get points and rewards for completing a task, CARROT To-Do will have a mood swing when you don’t.

CARROT To-Do is creative with language too. She will congratulate you with a quirky turn of phrase, and and gift you with rewards like story challenges and a kitten friend when you’re doing well. If you want to know more about the kitten, you’ll have to download the app and actually be productive first.

If you’re skeptical, you need only read CARROT To-Do’s reviews on the App Store. Turns out a verbally abusive, passive aggressive she-bot is actually pretty effective at giving iPhone users a push in the right direction.

The app is US and iPhone-only at the moment, sadly. As with all successful apps that make it big on the iPhone, though, we reckon it’s only a matter of time before it hits Android. You can download her/it from the App Store for $2.99 (around £2.30).
