mBand was designed by women for women to feel safer using a stylish ring as a personal emergency response system.
The concept was built around the need to empower women and help them feel secure when they are alone. Even in the case of an attack, you can activate the mBand ring from any position without alerting the assailant or arousing suspicion.
Using your thumb to discreetly press the concealed alert button, you can activate the mBand app with just one push on the side of the ring. Once the alert has been sent, it will send your exact location to the emergency response centre which is open 24/7 and can dispatch police to your location. The centre is manned by professionals who are on standby for when you need help quickly.
mBand can also send alerts to any contacts you have selected in your contacts for help from your friends and family in an emergency. Once you’ve sent your location, it will appear as a pin on the map which moves with you in real time if you are trying to move away from an incident or unsafe area so you can always be tracked.
The stylish gold or silver design makes it completely wearable and it is waterproof and durable so could work all day from a workout to a night out.
Setting the ring up is a simple process as all you have to do is pair the app to your phone, select your emergency contacts, enter your personal information and it’s ready to go. Your selected contacts don’t even need to have the app downloaded as they will still receive your alerts, messages and location.
The project is over on Kickstarter but the special part of this fundraising is that, for every 10 backers who donate, mBand will donate a ring and a year’s worth of support to grassroots organisations that specialise in working towards ending violence towards women so check their page out here. Earlybird offers start at $80 (£55) and shipping is due to start this summer.
