The outrageously luxurious Samsung De Grisogono smartwatch probably isn't in your price range...

When Samsung recently unveiled an 18K gold and platinum plated version of its Gear S2 smartwatch, you would have assumed that the South Korean tech giant was all blinged out for the year. But apparently, that was just a warm-up.

In partnership with Swiss luxury jeweller De Grisogono, Samsung has just revealed the De Grisogono Gear S2 smartwatch – a brazenly ostentatious limited edition Gear 2 that’s practically drowning in diamonds.

That’s 100 diamonds, to be precise. A black and white sea of tiny glittering jewels pressed into the bezel and flanked by an elegant rose gold body. The watch is finished off with a strap made from Galuchat – a De Grisogono favourite made of the skins of sharks and rays.

The watch face has undergone a luxury revamp too, with two dedicated custom watch faces – one black, one mottled silver – featuring two additional dials that can display day/night, a tiny seconds counter, a power reserve meter, or a moon phase dial.

Inside, however, the familiar Gear S2 traits linger on. The screen still runs on Samsung’s Tizen-based operating system, the 250mAh battery gives you about two days of use, and you can navigate apps and screens by twisting the bezel. The same pulse measuring, step-counting, and activity-tracking features remain intact, along with wrist-based notifications and call-answering capabilities.

Samsung hasn’t actually announced a price tag for the De Grisogono, but us peasants are probably better off not knowing…
